On 8 July 2010, CEDEX Plastics, a U.S.-Lebanese joint venture between Exopack and INDEVCO, celebrated the launching of its co-extruded polyethylene film production in Zouk Mosbeh, Lebanon.

The plant produces shrink bundling film, CaseFLEX™ select case overwrap film, AquaCrystal® select high clarity shrink films, lamination grade sealant film, PolarFlex™ select surface printable films, and towel and tissue wrap for the North American market.

U.S.-Lebanese Joint Venture CEDEX Inaugurates PE Film Production

CEDEX Plastics has begun manufacturing co-extruded polyethylene films for the North American market.

The joint venture between U.S. based Exopack and multinational manufacturing group, INDEVCO, culminated from a strategic alliance to source PE-based materials from the Middle East to serve North American markets.

In April 2009, the two parties signed their joint venture agreement. Three months later, CEDEX Plastics invested in a three-layer VAREX PE co-extrusion line from Windmoeller & Hoelscher.

Partner executives attended a ceremony on 8 July to celebrate the production launch at the Zouk Mosbeh, Lebanon plant. The ceremony began with a reception and welcome speeches.

According to Rabih Frem, CEDEX Plastics Chairman,

CEDEX General Manager, Wissam Moubarak, engaged the audience with a presentation on CEDEX Plastics, addressing three main points: the initial idea behind CEDEX, progress since signing of the joint venture, and CEDEX’s future objectives and vision.

Moubarak discussed the common philosophy and competencies that brought the partners together to achieve their common goals. The presentation highlighted images, from start to launch, of the plant preparation, installation, and production.

After the ribbon cutting, visitors took a tour of the CEDEX Plastics production line, followed by cake-cutting and a luncheon buffet.

CEDEX Plastics will produce AquaCrystal® Select high-clarity shrink film and CaseFLEX™ Select corrugated case overwrap film, as well as heavy-duty shrink bundling film. The plant will later expand to produce lamination film, surface printable film, and towel and tissue wrap.

CEDEX Plastics will officially launch its polyethylene film manufacturing operations, amidst an opening ceremony with joint venture partners, on 8 July 2010 in Zouk Mosbeh, Lebanon.

CEDEX is a joint venture signed in April 2009 between Exopack, a flexible packaging and coated film manufacturing group headquartered in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and INDEVCO, a multinational packaging and consumer disposables manufacturing group headquartered in Ajaltoun, Lebanon.

Located in close proximity to PE resin suppliers, CEDEX will produce and export co-extruded PE films for the North American market. The joint venture company invested in a 3-layer VAREX® co-extrusion film machine line from Windmoeller & Hoelscher, which was installed adjacent to MASTERPAK flexible packaging plant, a sister company in INDEVCO Group.

CEDEX’s product portfolio will initially feature AquaCrystal® Select high-clarity shrink film and CaseFLEX™ Select corrugated case overwrap film, as well as heavy-duty shrink bundling film. In parallel, CEDEX capabilities are under expansion for lamination film (sealant film), surface printable film, and towel and tissue wrap.

With over a half century of combined experience in the Middle East and North America, INDEVCO and Exopack share common competencies in film and flexible packaging manufacturing to support customers from a global sourcing and innovation perspective.

Exopack-INDEVCO's Lebanese joint venture to install 3-layer VAREX to make coextruded-PE film for export to North American markets.

CEDEX Plastics, the new Lebanese-based joint venture between Exopack and INDEVCO Group of Lebanon, has made its first investment in equipment: a 3-layer VAREX® co-extrusion line from Windmoeller & Hoelscher. CEDEX will use the VAREX® to manufacture co-extruded polyethylene film for export to North America, enabling Exopack to provide its customers with cost-effective films of the highest quality.

Exopack's President, Jack Knott, says, “CEDEX will offer valuable materials solutions to our customers. We chose W&H as our equipment supplier to ensure the quality and consistency of our products on a global basis. ”

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - (Business Wire) Exopack, an established leader in the development and manufacture of a variety of paper and plastic flexible packaging solutions, signed a joint venture agreement this week with Lebanon-based packaging manufacturer INDEVCO Group (INDEVCO) to manufacture co-extruded polyethylene film in the Middle East.

Initially, this joint venture will include the installation of film production equipment in INDEVCO’s MASTERPAK sal flexible packaging facility in Zouk Mosbeh, Lebanon. This new extrusion capacity will be used for the manufacture of various coextruded film products for uses in flexible packaging. The film will be distributed by Exopack as part of the company’s family of film products.

Exopack and INDEVCO have shared a long-term relationship through Exopack’s Global Packaging Linx (GPL) group. These two companies share common competencies in film production and flexible packaging manufacture to support customers from a global sourcing and innovation perspective. This joint venture represents the strengthening of this relationship and brings the first cost-effective films from the Middle East to customers in North America.

This joint venture is the initial phase of a longer-term strategy to continue to build multiple film production sites in the Middle East. This will allow Exopack and INDEVCO to take advantage of the new polymer manufacturing capacity coming on stream in the Middle East in light of the increased economic advantage of ethylene production in this region of the world.
